Course Objectives

 

 

Current Events: A Five Minute Summary

1. Your task is to inform the class of a current topic (within the last 2 weeks) that is important to be aware of.

a. The event will not be entertainment related.
b. It must be related to world affairs, government, politics, war/conflict, civil right/human rights violations, etc.
c. You CANNOT do a topic or current event that has already been discussed in class.

2. How you choose to relay this information to the class, is up to you. However, you must provide the following:

a. Two (2) news articles for the class to read.

i. These can come from electronic sources
ii. Remember to check sites and articles for reliability

b. One (1) video clip discussing the issue

3. As you lead us through the current event, you will need to make sure you address the following questions:

a. What is the issue?
b. Why is it important?
c. Who is involved?
d. Where is the issue taking place?
e. What are the multiple perspectives around the issue?
f. Why is the issue important to Americans?

4. You are free to add more than is required. Examples:

a. Powerpoint, Keynote, or Prezi
b. Additional articles or video clips
c. Personal account
